May 2026: Berman Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Congratulations to Prof. Judith Berman, Edmond J. Safra member (Life Sciences), who has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the world’s most prestigious scholarly societies.

This year, 256 researchers were elected, including 25 from outside the United States. Prof.  Berman is one of only two Israeli scientists included in this prestigious list.

Prof. Berman, a leading researcher at the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, is internationally recognized for her work in microbiology and genetics. Her research focuses on how cells respond to drug treatment, the role of genetic mutations in these processes, and mechanisms of drug tolerance, using the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans as a model system.

Prof. Berman is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Society for Microbiology, and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), and has published extensively in leading international journals.

Her election places her among a select group of global leaders whose research advances science and contributes to the public good.
