September 2026: Shomron and Avram featured in global Israeli applied science summit
Prof. Noam Shomron, Edmond J. Safra member, and Dr. Oren Avram, a former Edmond J. Safra PhD fellow, now a postdoc in UCLA, gave talks in Science Abroad's global Israeli applied science symposium.
Science Abroad's global Israeli applied science symposium 2026 brought together leading Israeli researchers from around the world with local scientists, entrepreneurs and industry leaders to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into real-world impact.
Held in Tel Aviv and online, the hybrid event showcased breakthroughs across AI, medicine, biotechnology, robotics and engineering, while strengthening ties between Israel's scientific diaspora and the country's innovation ecosystem.
The symposium's keynote was delivered by Prof. Noam Shomron, Edmond J. Safra member (Medical & Health Sciences), a leading genomics and biotechnology researcher, who highlighted the growing importance of international scientific collaboration and the role of applied research in addressing global challenges.
A standout speaker was Dr. Oren Avram, a former Edmond J. Safra PhD fellow (Pupko lab, life Sciences), now a postdoc in UCLA, who presented his work on AI foundation models for 3D medical imaging and their potential to advance preventive medicine and clinical trials.
Featuring researchers from institutions including UCLA, Harvard, the University of Michigan, the Max Planck Institute and Israel's leading universities and startups, the symposium underscored the value of connecting Israeli talent worldwide to drive innovation, partnerships and technology transfer.
