May 2023: The QBI/UCSF-TAU Second Symposium on Computational Biology and Drug Discovery

The QBI/UCSF-TAU Second Symposium on Computational Biology and Drug Discovery took place on May 16-17 2023 in UCSF. The meeting was organized by Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI), UCSF, Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics and the Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery (BCDD), TAU. The Scientific committee included Profs. Kathy Giacomini, and Nevan Krogan, Director, QBI-UCSF, Prof. Ron Shamir, and Dr. Aldema Sas-Chen of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics, TAU.

QBI seeks transformative results in biomedicine by supporting fundamental quantitative research in the biological sciences. ​The Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics promotes TAU as a leading force in the field of bioinformatics towards the development of novel drugs and biomedical technologies that will improve human health. The Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery aims to turn excellent multidisciplinary science into therapeutics leads. The 2023 symposium followed the inaugural symposium at TAU in 2019, and the initiation of collaboration via UCSF-TAU seed grants (link).  It continued the fostering of collaborative relationships between scientists from the participating institutions.

The symposium was a great success. Thirteen guests from TAU and ten UCSF scientists spoke at the meeting. Among the TAU speakers, nine were Edmond J. Safra PIs. A social program accompanied the scientific talks, and new contacts were formed. An audience of nearly 100 attended the two dense days of talks.
