July 2023: Carmit Levy: The science of sunburn

A study led by Prof. Carmit Levy, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Medicine) and colleagues, reveals the reason for the counter-intuitive phenomenon of why your skin changes color only hours after getting too much sun.

The sunburn does not occur immediately when the body is exposed to the sun, but rather after a certain delay. It turns out that the DNA repair mechanism takes precedence over all other systems in the cell and temporarily suppresses the pigmentation mechanism. Only after the cells have repaired the genetic information to the best of their ability, do they start producing melanin in an enhanced manner.

Prof. Carmit Levy was interviewed for YNET, and the research had an extensive coverage in worldwide media:

DAILY MAIL, JERUSALEM POST, JPOSTJNS, NOCAMELS, Lifetechnology, THE BRIGHTSIDE, NYBREAKING ,NEWS, AURORA, Tekcrispy ,Notiziescientifiche, ScientiasStirileprotv, Kurier, ma-clinique, Iefimerid.
