January 2024: Carmit Levy: Exposure to the sun may increase fertility among women aged 30-40
A study led by Prof. Carmit Levy, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Medicine), and colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine at TAU and from Sheba Medical Center, found that exposure to the sun may increase fertility among women aged 30-40.
A study, published in the journal Steroids, led by Prof. Carmit Levy, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Medicine), and colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine at TAU and from Sheba Medical Center, found for the first time that exposure to the sun in women aged 30-40 may increase fertility among this population group.
It was further found that the ovaries of women in late reproductive age secrete more of the Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in the summer - apparently due to increased exposure to UV (ultraviolet) radiation from the sun.
AMH is produced exclusively by cells of ovarian follicles and is an indicator of ovarian reserve, which declines with age.
The research was featured in the online newspaper YNET.
