A Welcome Seminar introducing the new faculty of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics was held on November 20, 2025, in Jaglom Hall, at Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Elhanan Borenstein, the Head of the Edmond J. Safra Center, opened the event and warmly welcomed the new Edmond J. Safra PIs, who joined the Center over the past two years.
The seminar featured five faculty members, each delivering an engaging short talk (including a 10-minute presentation, followed by a 2-minute Q&A), highlighting their research interests and ongoing projects:
- Dr. David Amar (Blavatnik School of Computer Science and AI; Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences; Sylvan Adams Sports Institute) spoke on “Clinical machine learning and research in exercise biology”.
- Dr. Miri Danan-Gotthold (Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences) presented “Human brain development at single-cell resolution”.
- Dr. Regev Schweiger (Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences and Blavatnik School of Computer Science and AI) gave a talk titled “Decoding genetic variation: From mechanisms to evolution”.
- Dr. Jérôme Tubiana (Blavatnik School of Computer Science and AI) talked about “From protein structure to function with geometric deep learning”.
- Prof. Yariv Wine (Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research) presented “Deciphering the hyperdiverse non-somatic antibody repertoire”.
An audience of faculty members and about 80 students from all degrees attended the seminar and enjoyed the exciting talks.
Notably, three of the speakers (Dr. David Amar, Dr. Regev Schweiger, and Dr. Jérôme Tubiana) are Edmond J. Safra alumni, highlighting the Center’s strong record in cultivating the next generation of leading bioinformatics researchers.
Following the talks, Prof. Borenstein invited the participants to enjoy refreshments and informal mingling in the lobby, providing an opportunity for lively discussion and networking.
