January 2026: Shiloh elected to the AACR Academy
Congratulations to Prof. Yosef Shiloh, Edmond J. Safra member, who has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
Congratulations to Prof. Yosef Shiloh, Edmond J. Safra member (Medical & Health Sciences), who has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) – one of the most prestigious honors in global cancer research. He is the first TAU scientist to receive this distinction.
The AACR Academy honors scientists whose pioneering work has transformed cancer research and driven major advances in cancer biology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Fellows serve as global leaders who help guide scientific priorities, support collaboration and education, and advocate for critical research funding. Election to the AACR Academy is a rigorous, peer‑reviewed process recognizing only those whose contributions have made a lasting and worldwide impact on cancer research.
Prof. Shiloh is one of 24 newly elected Fellows of the AACR Academy, honored for his pioneering work on cellular responses to DNA damage and the molecular basis of Ataxia‑Telangiectasia (A‑T). His team was the first to identify the gene mutated in A‑T, enabling accurate prenatal diagnosis. The gene encodes ATM, a central enzyme that maintains genome stability, an insight that has profoundly shaped cancer and aging research. Prof. Shiloh's lab continues to advance understanding of ATM function, A‑T complexity, and mechanisms of aging, contributing significantly to scientific and clinical knowledge.
