A New Joint Program in Computer Science/Life Sciences (Bioinformatics) And Medicine: shaping future doctors

Physicians increasingly rely on and use various technologies as part of clinical practice and research. Bioinformatics combines biology, computer science, and data science to develop and apply methods for analyzing vast clinical, medical, genomic, and molecular datasets and thereby generate insights of potential clinical relevance.

We are therefore delighted to announce the launching of a new prestigious program for outstanding applicants, which will future doctors in both Bioinformatics and Medicine:

•    The first 3 years are dedicated to studying Computer Science, Life Sciences, and Bioinformatics, as part of the joint Computer Science/Life Science Bioinformatics program. Upon completion, the student will receive a Bachelor’s degree (BSc), with a combined major in Computer Science and Life Sciences with specialization in Bioinformatics.
•    The following 4 years are in the School of Medicine (2 pre-clinical years, followed by 2 clinical years). Upon completion the students receive their MD degree.

Altogether the program is 7 years long, followed by clinical internships.

Program coordinators:
Prof. Irit Gat-Viks – Faculty of Life Sciences
Prof. Elhanan Borenstein – School of Computer Science and Faculty of Medicine
Dr. Sharon Weiss – Faculty of Medicine
