October 2026: Ben-David, Ebenstein and Levy featured in Jerusalem Post: Edmond J. Safra Center researchers lead breakthroughs in cancer research at TAU
Three principal investigators from the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics were featured in a recent Jerusalem Post article highlighting innovative cancer research at TAU.
Three principal investigators from the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics were featured in a recent Jerusalem Post article highlighting innovative cancer research at TAU. Their work exemplifies how interdisciplinary science and advanced technologies are driving new approaches to cancer detection, treatment, and understanding of disease mechanisms.
Among the researchers highlighted were: Prof. Yuval Ebenstein, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (chemistry) who led the development of a rapid and cost-effective blood test for lung cancer detection. The test identifies cancer-associated chemical signatures in cell-free DNA without the need for DNA sequencing and demonstrated high accuracy in detecting stages 2-4 lung cancer.
Prof. Carmit Levy, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Medical & Health Sciences), whose research uncovered a mechanism by which melanoma cells evade the immune system. Her team showed that cancer cells release extracellular vesicles that disable immune cells, opening new possibilities for therapies aimed at strengthening anti-tumor immune responses.
Prof. Uri Ben-David, Edmond J. Safra member (Medical & Health Sciences), recognized for his pioneering studies on aneuploidy and the mechanisms that allow cancer cells to adapt to abnormal chromosome numbers. His findings are providing new insights into cancer evolution and therapeutic vulnerabilities.
The article also highlighted the vibrant cancer research ecosystem at TAU, which brings together experts from diverse scientific disciplines to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
The recognition of Profs. Ebenstein, Levy, and Ben-David in the Jerusalem Post underscores the significant contributions of the Edmond J. Safra Center researchers to advancing cancer research and translating scientific discoveries into future clinical impact.
