January 2023: TAU MedTech Hackathon

The first TAU MedTech Hackathon will take place on January 11-13, 2023, at Tel Aviv University. 

The event is organized by the Faculty of Medicine and a group of students, and is supported by several centers, institutions, and companies, including the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics.

 

During the event, students from several faculties at TAU (Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience and Bioinformatics) will assemble multidisciplinary teams that will tackle challenges facing the healthcare system and biotech industry. This TAU medical innovation hackathon aims to bring the worlds of medicine and technology closer and to improve innovation in healthcare, as well as to promote entrepreneurship among young and ambitious students.

 

The challenges addressed in the Hackathon will originate from TAU's affiliated hospitals and HMO's: Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), Sheba Medical Center, Shamir Medical Center, Meir Medical Center, Wolfson Medical Center, Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson and Hasharon), Schneider Children’s Medical Center, Clalit Health Services, Maccabi Healthcare Services, Kupat Holim Meuhedet, and Leumit Healthcare, all of which have guaranteed their participation at the event. Global technology leaders such as Amazon, Google, Philips, MIT, and many other companies are taking part in the event as well.

 

During the hackathon session, teams will work for 40 hours to design and produce creative technological solutions for the various challenges and present these solutions to a panel of judges, including Prof. Elhanan Borenstein, Edmond J. Safra member (Computer Science and Medicine) which will select the winners. Professional mentors from the medical world and from the tech industry will accompany the teams during the contest, providing guidance and consultation on issues within their field of expertise. Prof. Noam Shomron, Edmond J. Safra member (Medicine) and Dr. Iddo Weiner, former Edmond J. Safra PhD student fellow (Tuller lab, engineering) and now head of Data-Science at BiomX Inc, will serve as two of the mentors in the event.

 

The winning solution will be further developed by the faculty, the university, and the associated hospitals.
