December 2024: Burstein promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Prof. David (Dudu) Burstein, Edmond J. Safra member (Life Sciences), who was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.

Prof. David Burstein holds a position at the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research in the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Prof. Burstein's research combines bioinformatics and experimental approaches to study antibiotic resistance, CRISPR-Cas and other microbial systems. His lab focuses on unraveling key interaction mechanisms within microbial communities and to promote their application in biotechnology and medicine. By combining state-of-the-art machine learning, molecular biology, and metagenomic techniques, the lab deciphers key functions in the nexus of microbial interactions, including CRISPR-Cas, anti-CRISPR mechanisms, antibiotic resistance genes, and bacterial secretion systems.

Prof. David Burstein is an alumnus of the Edmond J. Safra Center: Starting the academic year 2006, the second year of the Center, he was Edmond J. Safra MSc and then PhD student fellow under the supervision of Prof. Tal Pupko (Life Sciences).
