This year, eight scientists, chosen from a competitive pool of 140 applicants from top universities across the globe, were chosen to receive this award.
The $2.5 million research grant supports exceptional mid-career scientists in pursuing bold, interdisciplinary research directions beyond their primary fields. The award provides recipients with the freedom to explore high-risk high-reward ideas that typically fall outside conventional funding frameworks.
Prof. Ben-David is a leading cancer biologist whose research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer, and particularly chromosomal instability in cancer cells. His work has been published in top-tier journals, cited thousands of times, and has contributed to clinical advancements. The Schmidt Science Polymaths Award recognizes his groundbreaking achievements and visionary research potential.
