Prof. Uri Ben-David, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Medicine), is listed as one of eight promising young researchers chosen by the Israeli TV N12 magazine.
N12 magazine assembled the team of young researchers who will lead the Israeli academy in the coming years - from computational psychology through neural network research and marine archeology.
Prof. Uri Ben-David, an expert in cancer genetics, published more than 55 articles, including in the prestigious journal Nature, and more than 7,000 studies cited his work. He is the recipient of the American Cancer Society's Next Generation Star Award and the Wolf Foundation's Krill Award.
"Most people know that cancer has mutations in DNA. What is less known is that 90% of cancers have an abnormal number of chromosomes - this phenomenon is called aneuploidy. We do not understand this phenomenon enough. For many years, it was difficult to study it properly. We think that if we understand it better, we can develop new strategies to selectively kill cancer cells" – said Prof. Ben-David in an interview to the magazine.
He added: "This is the main field of research in my laboratory. We combine experimental and computational tools to understand the contribution of aneuploidy to the development of cancer and the consequences of this special phenomenon on cancer cells, with the aim of identifying weak points ("Achilles' heel") of cancer cells."
