On May 23, 2023, Dr. Shaked Afik from Immunai was a guest speaker of the Edmond J. Safra Young Researchers' Forum.
Immunai is a biotech startup, whose mission is to improve drug development through an engineering-first mapping of the human immune system.
Shaked Afik is a computational biology team lead and has been at Immunai since 2020. He completed his PhD in computational biology in the lab of Prof. Nir Yosef at UC Berkeley, where he worked on uncovering gene regulation mechanisms in the human immune system.
Shaked shared the career path he went through, and talked about career development, as well as on his computational biology group at the company. It was followed by an open discussion about research in academia vs. research in industry.
