Abstract: Dr. Adi Stern and her team sequenced the genome of the coronavirus as it appeared in Israel. This enabled them to identify specific mutations that reveal the chain of infection – both how the virus entered Israel and how it then spread within the country. This tool is highly important to the understanding of the virus and its spread in the general population, as a scientific and objective basis to local and national decision makers. This study has a has an important contribution, as it will enable better coping, in real time, with the next outbreak of the coronavirus, or with any other epidemic that might arise.
