November 2024: Hagai awarded ERC grant

Dr. Tzachi Hagai, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (Life Sciences), won the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Grant, for his research titled "How domain mimicry shapes genetic conflicts between hosts and viruses".
Dr. Hagai won the ERC Consolidator grant that is awarded to leading researchers in advanced career stages and allows them to continue to promote groundbreaking research in diverse scientific fields.
Dr. Tzachi Hagai investigates the evolutionary dynamics of host-virus interactions. His research goals are to understand how the network of interactions formed between viruses and their hosts has shaped their evolution, how these interactions constrain viral zoonotic transfers, and how these interactions differ between host species. In his studies Dr. Hagai uses structural bioinformatics, host–virus protein–protein interaction analysis, comparative genomics, and in vitro virological and immunological assays.
