Annual Fellowship Ceremony 2018-2019

A ceremony awarding fellowships and certificates to new and continuing Edmond J. Safra Center fellows took place on December 27, 2018 at Tel Aviv University. The event was attended by TAU President, Prof. Joseph Klafter, as well as Dean of Exact Sciences, Prof. Michael Krivelevich, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Karen Avraham, and Head of Computer Science School, Prof. Benny Chor. The guest of honor was Mr. Juir Torenheim, the Edmond J. Safra Philanthropic Foundation representative in Israel. Prof. Ron Shamir, the head of the Center, gave a pictorial summary of the Center's status. Profs Klafter and Avraham greeted the audience.
This year's winner of the Edmond J. Safra Center excellent Research Student Prize was PhD fellow Shiran Abadi (Mayrose lab, Life Sciences). The prize is awarded annually to a research student with outstanding scientific record. Shiran presented her research in an exciting popular talk titled "Bioinformatics helps the courthouse".
A special award was given to former Edmond J. Safra PhD fellow, Roni Wilentzik (Gat-Viks lab, Life Sciences) in recognition of her contributions to the initiation, establishment and organization of the Edmond J. Safra Young Researchers' Forum during the years 2014-2018.
Fifty three fellowships and awards were given to excellent bioinformatics students in all degrees, including undergraduates and graduates.
During the distribution of the certificates, we had a short musical break in which Ohad Glaich, Edmond J. Safra PhD fellow (Ast Lab, Medicine) introduced his acoustic guitar and gave an engaging performance.
