February 2020: Investors speak in the Edmond J. Safra Biomedical Informatics Entrepreneurs Salon

The fifth Edmond J. Safra Biomedical Informatics Entrepreneurs Salon took place on February 23 2020. The topic of the salon was "Investments in Life Sciences in the next decade: prospects and perils".  Some 50 participants from industry and academia gathered in the Jaglom Auditorium at TAU.

Prof. Noam Shomron, Edmond J. Safra Center member (Medicine) and Chair of the Salon organizing committee, opened the event and introduced the panel of investors: Mr. Yaron Breski (RM Global), Ms. Netalie Nadivi (Triventures), Dr. MD Irit Yaniv (Accelmed) and Ms. Daniella Segal (Lamed Holdings).

Ms. Segal introduced the panelists and moderated the panel. The speakers shared their perspectives on expected future trends in health-tech investments, the dynamics and decision making of entrepreneurs and investors, and the interaction with academia.  The panel was followed by a lively Q&A session, with many students in the audience asking questions and expressing their thoughts. The discussion continued into the reception afterwards, allowing interaction in an informal environment. We got great feedbacks from the audience who had the opportunity to hear the investors perspective about the initial steps in the life of a start-up.

The Salon series, an initiative of the Center launched last year, is a forum to promote entrepreneurship at the convergence of biology, medicine, and computing. It aims to create a meeting, interaction and networking forum for academics, industry, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists interested in joining together biology, medicine and computing. The series is a collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School and the BIES series.
