The Alpha Program at Tel Aviv University for Youth is a unique program for talented and gifted high school students that allows them to integrate into the world of advanced scientific research. This program enables students, among other research assignments, to complete a science research project, under the supervision of senior undergraduate students and a faculty member.

Gil Ramot, a student at Alpha Program, performed a project at Prof. Elhanan Borenstein's lab, Edmond J. Safra member (Computer Science School and Medical & Health Sciences Faculty), under the mentorship of Mor Tsamir-Rimon, a graduate student in the lab. Gil's work examined the relationship between the gut microbiome and cardiometabolic diseases using machine learning. This work won the second place at "The Israeli young scientists and developers contest".

The "Young Scientists and Developers in Israel" competition is a national competition that takes place, for the 27th year, as part of the National Science Week events, starting close to Albert Einstein's birthday. The best research and engineering projects, carried out in the last year, by high school students from all over the country, compete in it.
