September 2019: The 8th graduate students GGE conference at TAU

The 8th graduate students conference in Genetics, Genomics and Evolution (GGE) was held on September 24, 2019 in TAU.

Initiated in 2012, the annual conference rotates between university in Israel. It brings together graduate students in genetics, genomics and evolution. The students are the sole organizers of the meeting. In it they present their work to a diverse audience as a talk or a poster, in a stimulating and productive environment. It is a unique forum, which provides an invaluable opportunity for students from different universities, cities and religions to take the lead. Students meet, get to know each other, spark an exchange of ideas and form connections and collaborations that will advance their careers and science in general.

180 students from all Israeli universities participate in the conference at TAU.  The keynote speaker was Yonatan Chemla, a PhD student from Ben-Gurion University. There were 20 oral presentations and 54 poster presenters. Prizes were given to the best two talks and to the best three posters.

The workshop was a great success, scientifically and socially. It was led  by five students: Edmond J. Safra PhD student fellows Iddo Weiner (Life Sciences and Engineering) Maoz Gelbart and Talia Kustin (Life Sciences), as well as Noam Shahar and Amer Elias. Four of the scientific advisory board were Edmond J. Safra members, Prof. Karen B. Avraham (Medicine), Prof. Martin Kupiec and Dr. Adi Stern (Life Sciences), and Prof. Tamir Tuller (Engineering).
